Shopper team members, or personal shoppers, are positions offered by some of the largest employers in the warehouse industry, like Amazon and Walmart. The major difference between these two jobs is that Walmart personal shoppers gather items from a local Walmart sales floor and Amazon shopper team members gather items in a warehouse or in a Whole Foods market.
Walmart Personal Shopper Job Description
These Walmart associates "shop" for customers who place their orders online. Walmart personal shoppers put together orders for grocery pickup, express pickup, and delivery orders. So the job may include working within strict time constraints.
The items shopped for may include groceries and other goods from across the store. As a Walmart shopper you’ll collaborate with managers, co-workers, and customers on a day-to-day basis. Some of the duties of a Walmart personal shopper can include:
- Pick customer orders form the sales-floor and pack them efficiently.
- Make proper substitutions.
- Provide customer service while shopping.
- Hand off completed orders for staging associates to process.
- Follow proper procedures to prevent theft and loss.
- Comply with company policies and standards of ethics.
- Help on registers or stocking as time permits.
Amazon Shopper Team Member Job Description
As an Amazon shopper team member or Prime Now team member, you’ll work inside a warehouse, getting orders ready for delivery. This job includes selecting, sorting, and preparing orders while possibly operating powered industrial equipment (PIT) like pallet jacks and forklifts.
This job is often a full time job so you could work a steady schedule of 40 hours each week. But part time positions are also normally available too. Some of the duties of an Amazon shopper team member can include:
- Use a smartphone to manage apps, and scan bar codes.
- Receive and put away inventory.
- Carefully select items and package them for safe delivery.
- Accurately check for order quality.
- Communicate with customers about orders through the Amazon app.
- Other tasks related to grocery quality and inventory.
Shopper Job Requirements
The requirements to get a job as a shopper team member or personal shopper include being able to understand and follow safety requirements and have a high school, GED, or equivalent diploma. In many cases applicants must be 18 years or older, with the ability to read and speak English.
As a shopper team member, you may be lifting heavy items. You could also be working in different climates from room temperature to walk-in freezer environments, so you need to be able to physically handle that. Shoppers working in Walmart or Whole Foods also need to be focused on customer support since they do interact with the public while shopping.
